Black and White photography

In Photography we chose our own projects. I decided to do a project on roses and orchids but in black and white. this makes you look at the shape and texture of the flower rather than the colour. I really like this image as the main focus is of the dead petal but the rest of the flower is alive and healthy.
I really like this image as the orchid stands out against the black background. Unfortunately i missed the tips of a couple of the petals. This was due to the flower being on an odd angle and it was difficult getting the camera in front of it to get a proper shot.
This is one of my favourite rose photographs. I cropped the image so that you would only see the bottom part of the flower. The f stop was small so there was a shallow depth of field so only the tips of the petals are in focus.
This is one of my favourite orchid photographs. I like the way it shows the new growth of the flower buds and the flower opening and yet above it the branch has died. what is the key part of this image is that the part that has died was a branch with buds on.

Black and White Portrait

This is my friend Charlotte. She agreed to pose for me to help me decide how I should photograph the model. I think that this photo turned out really well. You can only see half of her due to the lighting. I purposely decided to use dramatic lighting as the final photos would be in black and white so this would make this photo different to the normal portrait photos. The photo is soft as this creates an atmosphere of wistfulness. She is staring into the distance with a sad look on her face. Unfortunately the background wasn't the best as I only had a sheet and it wasn't hung up properly so there is some texture in the background. If I could take it again I would make sure the background is flat and therefore doesn't detract from the model.
